Mikos calls the assembly to order. After a moment the crowd quiets down.
Mikos says, "Let me first make a few announcements to avoid uneccessary questions."
Mikos says, "First, this forum is to announce some upcoming changes and to let you know where things are headed in the longer term."
Mikos says, "Second, this forum is not here to address specific, "What is a ?" questions."
Mikos says, "Third, this forum is to get feedback from you on changes you expect, or feel need to be made to weapons, for one reason or another."
Mikos says, "If you have questions you wish to ask, please type HELP to get the working commands for this room."
Mikos says, "We've had a number of new weapons in the works for some time. Those will be released into the game in the next several weeks."
Mikos says, "Some you won't see as new: bastard swords, longswords, claidhmores, estocs. You've seen them before, but now they won't be simply renamed falchions or broadswords. They'll have stats of their own that will make them different."
Mikos says, "In fact most if not all of them you likely have seen renamed versions of in the past."
Mikos says, "I will be trying to end this forum in two hours, just so we don't lose sleep over it. Running into the wee hours of the morning doesn't do anyone well on a Sunday night."
(Tsoran's Note: Nice try. It ended 5 hours later ::grin::)
Mikos says, "The following weapons will be released with their own distinct stats: longsword, tiger-claw, military pick, awl-pike, bastard sword, flamberge, estoc, backsword, pilum, ball & chain, Hammer of Kai, and jeddart-axe."
Mikos says, "Kythyn says, 'Will this forum address the purported unbalancing of warriors?'"
Mikos smiles.
Mikos says, "That is not the focus of this forum."
Mikos says, "Wolflone says, 'Will the breakage system come back? and how soon will the bard circle be completed?'"
Mikos says, "The breakage system will be coming back, although no time frame has been set. And this forum will not address spell circles."
Mikos says, "Myeluh says, 'mikos about polearms and not melee range'"
Mikos says, "I'm not sure what the exact question is meant to be. Myeluh, you might want to try again."
Mikos says, "Frorin says, 'if I have a weapon mentioned like a flamberge for example will the stats change on it..?'"
Mikos says, "That hasn't been decided yet. For some like the bastard sword it's easier to change all to the new stats. For some it will require a conversion vessel. No decision has been made yet as far as which will be changed and which will be left as unique items as the new weapons come in."
Mikos says, "Myeluh asks, "What about non-frontline weapons like polearms and ranged weapons?""
Mikos says, "Some of the weapons mentioned are polearms. None are ranged weapons."
Mikos says, "I haven't heard of any date for implementation of the Engagement System, so don't expect this to be related to that at all."
Mikos says, "Flandamier says, 'Are there any upcoming archery weapons that will be implemented?'"
Mikos says, "No comment at this time."
Mikos says, "Nanna says, 'The new bastardsword will be a single entity then and not a scripted broadsword? I also noticed claidhmore wasn't on your second list? Also, will you be releasing the damage factors and avd's of these weapons?'"
Mikos says, "Yes, the bastard sword will be a single entity, but by it's nature it will still be scripted. The claidhmore was left off my second list by oversight. You won't see any change to its stats, it is simply being updated for GM's ease of replacement. At this point we are not planning on releasing a list of Damage factors or AvD's for the new weapons. Experimentation is part of the fun."
Mikos winks.
Mikos says, "Aaton says, 'how are we going to get these weapons'"
Mikos says, "They will show up via merchants, chests, on critters, or via auctions. The usual means. Some will show up in shops eventually."
Mikos says, "Shalwend says, 'mikos 'Will there be any new polearms?'"
Fraxinus just went out.
Mikos says, "Yes, the awl-pike and the pilum are both polearms, as are the Hammer of Kai and the jeddart-axe."
Mikos says, "Intended changes are that one-handed halberds will be going away. Also, expect lances to be down-tweaked drastically."
Mikos says, "And there is likely to be small down-tweaks to falchions."
Mikos says, "Brinal says, 'Warriors are treated very unfairly in terms of weaponed combat.. yes they have the opertunity to train 3 times in weapons etc.. but there numbers are the same sa any other class with the same numbers. making Warriors extreamly inferrior in the long run.. in the use of weapons.. will this be addressed in the changes?'"
Mikos says, "Nope, these changes are just to weapons that are by nature available to all adventurers."
Mikos says, "This is not an attempt to fix the warrior problem. It's additions to the available weapons in the game, and changes that are recognised as needed regardless of who is wielding them."
Mikos says, "Alizarean says, 'will we be able to distinguish a new longsword from an old one?'"
Mikos says, "Yes, if you become familiar with the stats. But you won't be able to tell by looking at them."
Mikos says, "Thornack says, 'is there going to be a standard on critting, and padding? not like there are different degrees of critting and padding from different merchants.'"
Mikos says, "This is not on the subject, but yes, we are moving toward standardization in some form. Please keep in mind that different merchants will still have different levels of expertise and different prefernces."
Mikos says, "Tenser says, 'what will happen to the old weapons. Will a 'old' longsword still be a renamed falchion?'"
Mikos says, "Yes, old weapons, unless we announce a change, will remain as they are. However, don't expect a GM doing a replacement to recreate a renamed weapon. We will have no interest in perpetuating the old versions."
Mikos says, "Darcbless says, 'Clerics who train in Blunts can get an Eonake Mace that is weighted however Eonake Waraxes are not aloud to be weighted which punishes clerics for how they trained any chance this will change?'"
Mikos says, "I wasn't aware of this as policy or as a problem. I'll make a note and look into it."
Mikos says, "Taerjaedan says, 'Are there going to be totally new weapons created, or just modified old ones, because I use blunts and there are hardly enough kinds out there'"
Mikos says, "The next batch of new weapons will concentrate on blunt weapons and more polearms, specifically a couple of one-handed polearms to replace the one-handed halberds that will be going away."
Mikos says, "Omnirus says, 'will there be a specific way to determine stats or will this be another bard function?'"
Mikos says, "The usual means of determining stats will be available. A list of stats may be posted, but there's no plan to at this point."
Mikos says, "Grimar says, 'When can we expect breakage and how will it work?'"
Mikos says, "There is no timeframe for breakage to come back in. You should see plentyof announcements prior to it being implemented. It will work as it used to, striking other hard objects will generate a chance of a weapon or shield breaking. There has been discussion of repair skills, but so far that's just discussion."
Mikos says, "Cedorian says, 'will there be an engagement system added?'"
Mikos says, "Don't hold your breath."
Mikos says, "Leag says, 'are there going to be any brawling weapons introduced ? will there be any weapons that can be used 1 and 2 handed. also where can we get a list of all the new weapons and what ones have been changed. could they make a change so that when you look at or examin a weapon it tells you what type it is (ie. 2 hander polearm ext.)'"
Mikos says, "There will be more brawling weapons added, but don't expect them soon. We'll be looking them over closely and adding them slowly. Besides the bastard sword, a hand-switchable blunt weapon will be in the next batch of new weapons. Call it a bastard flail or bastard mace if you like."
Mikos says, "As far as having the skill needed apparent by looking at the weapon, don't expect it. It's not easy to do without eliminating long descriptions or something like that."
Mikos says, "Juleena says, 'mikos will this forum cover the uslessness of using two-handed or two-weapon style?'"
Mikos says, "No, this forum will not address skills, only weapons."
Mikos says, "Deraknian says, 'mikos what will kais hammer be like?'"
Mikos says, "It's a polearm. Similar to a Lucerne Hammer if you're familiar with that weapon from another world."
Mikos says, "Stonenkin says, 'host concerning these new weapons, when will there stats be released, and will they require a differnt type of training be required to use the proficenty'"
Mikos says, "The new weapons will all use existing skills. In future we might be adding weapons that require a mix of skills, for instance brawling and OHE."
Mikos says, "Gartt says, 'Are there plans in the works to fix weapons that currently have bugs. e.g. staves & cudgels (you mentioned lances & halberds)? Additionally, will weapon damage types be straightened out? War mattocks that do no puncture damage, for example. Finally, are there plans to down-tweak the morningstar along with the falchion?'"
Mikos says, "Yes to all of the above."
Mikos says, "Iras says, 'By how soon will the release of these weapons be?'"
Mikos says, "Within the next several weeks. They've been approved from on-high, it's just a matter of how best to get them out there."
Mikos says, "Ayaki says, 'you said a small tweak of fals...will 'old fals' be tweaked as well? seems hardly fair to change a weapon that is already in existence'"
Mikos says, "Yes, I am talking about tweaks to existing weapons that are out in the game. It may not seem fair, but we'd prefer to have no single "best" weapon in the game. It forces players to choose between advancing as quickly as they can, and choosing to be unique."
Mikos says, "Rhiith says, 'It seems to me that the selection of blunt weapons does not compare to the availibility of edged types. Will the selection of good blunt weapons be increased with the introduction of new weapons?'"
Mikos says, "You're right, and that will be addressed in the next batch of new weapons."
Mikos says, "Cloudberst says, 'how much will these weapons cost and will there be a level restriction like magic metals?'"
Mikos says, "There is no plan for any level restriction on the new weapons. Normal versions of them will be priced comparably to existing weapons."
Mikos says, "Kelfini says, 'milos what is ment by scriping a weapon?'"
Mikos says, "Scripting a weapon means it has a piece of programming code hooked to it to make it function correctly."
Mikos says, "Bastard swords are the current example, but we intend to add some polearms that will be scripted to for special sorts of attacks."
Mikos says, "Siraris says, 'will we be seeing more higher enchanted items since breakage is comming back and will it be easier to get'"
Mikos says, "I would expect if items start going away from breakage, you'll see them being sold more too."
Mikos says, "Julesia says, 'mikos What about old quest items (unique items) and defender weapons? Will they be converted to this new system or left as relics? Also, a little off topic, will death mechanics ever be brought back to what they once were or will death stay as meaningless as it now is.'"
Mikos says, "Don't expect unique weapons to change. Most conversion schemes check for unique descriptions or other telltales on unique items. As far as death mechanics, that isn't being addressed at this forum."
Mikos smiles.
Mikos says, "Kounan says, 'mikos 'are any new magic metals going to be added?'"
Mikos says, "No, although you should expect a new round of renames for some materials. I think most of the better ones you recognize as being decent names. Some you don't see very often we're working on changing to improve them."
Mikos says, "Quiet says, 'I admit ignorance, but were any of the new weapons, flexible weapons (like whips)?'"
Mikos says, "No, none of the new weapons are flexible like whips. The next batch of new weapons will concentrate on polearms and blunts, the batch after that will involve close examination to get old weapons that aren't currently functional back into the game."
Mikos says, "Lleto says, 'First, will the release of these items be en masse? Or will they be running around in small numbers and gradually grow? Second, will the positon of weighted weapons be in any way affected? There are many weighted items out there, and they are growing more and more commonplace.'"
Mikos says, "Release of the new weapons has already been addressed, so I won't repeat. As far as weighted weapons go, none of the new ones are weighted. I wouldn't hazard a guess at this point on the future availability of weighted weapons."
Mikos says, "Katrinia says, 'What happens to someone who has spent a long time getting a weapon that is good for them, (ie enchanted, critted, etc.) Spent many hours and much money. And now they end up with a weapon that is not the best for them because of the stat change. Will there be any compensation?'"
Mikos says, "That situation is exactly why no decision has been made about converting old weapons. We recognize that folks have spent time and money customizing weapons. This is not intended to penalize them in any way. That's one of the biggest reasons for not changing existing weapons at all."
Mikos says, "In the long term, the longer you hear no announcement about changing old weapons, the less likely it will be to happen."
Mikos says, "Willgor says, 'mikos can you repeat the list of changes for those of us that couldn't get in at the begening'"
Mikos says, "Sure thing: longsword, tiger-claw (OHE), military pick(2H), awl-pike(PA), claidhmore, backsword, estoc, bastard sword, crowbill(OHC), flamberge(2H), jeddart-axe(PA), Hammer of Kai(PA), ball & chain(OHC), pilum(PA 1H)."
Mikos says, "PA is polearm, OHE is One-handed edged, OHC is One-handed crushing. Anything else should be painfully obvious."
Mikos says, "Quavvy says, 'You are saying quite a bit about down-tweaking weapons. Will there be any weapons that will be made MORE powerful? Such as the axe, and it's comparably low AvD factor against most creatures and armors? '"
Mikos says, "I haven't seen a weapon yet that cried out for up-tweaking, except maybe the spear. We'll be looking closely at all of the existing weapons in the near future, though."
Mikos says, "Rthur says, 'mikos and how about some added ds for two weapon fighters..that extra weapon should be good for parring..and are scimitars gonna hit harder?'"
Mikos says, "That kind of change is more likely to come attached to a specific weapon, like a main gauche. Currently we're looking at adding that, but it's far from being added at this point. Right now there's no planned change to scimitars."
Mikos says, "Twofists says, 'will weapons like the bastard sword hold thier rariety value or will they become cheaper and more easily found'"
Mikos says, "I don't expect the rarity of specific weapons to change. This is just a change to give them unique stats."
Mikos says, "Kayveen says, 'mikos Are the weapons in Icemule going to be able to be made in different metals, like in Wehnimers?'"
Mikos says, "That's more of a town question. I haven't looked into that at all, although I do expect as new weapons are added you'll see them in the shops in some town and not in others. There will likely be regional availability to some extent."
Mikos says, "Effrimon says, 'are we talking about severl batches of new weapons over an extended time period?'"
Mikos says, "Yes, we are. The ones I've named in the list will be added in the next few weeks. The other batches I've mentioned will be coming later this fall and later in the year."
Mikos asks, "Mpov says, "WIll you be modifying e-bladed weapons or e-blading in any way?"
Mikos says, "Nope."
Mikos says, "Wrenikle says, 'is a leg, neck, head or any other body part a hard item?'"
Mikos says, "No. A weapon or shield is a hard item."
Mikos smiles.
Mikos says, "Or a rock."
Mikos winks.
Mikos says, "Wilfredin says, 'Mikos, earlier you said that falchions (along with other weapons) would be tweaked down as far as the ones already out there and the ones sold in the future after the change. Will this affect falchion based weapons as well such as longswords?'"
Mikos says, "Yes, any change to falchions will affect falchion-based weapons. If we tweak the base weapon, we affect all renamed versions of them."
Mikos says, "Cru says, 'when you say a falchion will be tweaked down, does that mean the DF will be lowered and the weapon will become 'faster' because of it?'"
Mikos says, "Likely the DF will be lowered on an AsG or two. It is unlikely that it will become any faster."
Mikos says, "Phyro says, 'Will any of the blunts in creation actually NOT puncture? As it is, its abit ridiculous. Or, will changes be made to stars and maces to make them not puncture?'"
Mikos says, "I'd have to look again. One thing to remember is that OHC is One-Hand Crushing, it is not blunt as is so often mentioned. Morning Stars and flails are commonly built with points, that's why they do puncture crits. A crowbill is a OHC, but it is a beaked weapon, it does puncture crits too."
Mikos says, "Devilskull says, 'If a weapon containing the old stats is lost, will it be replaced with the old stats or with the new "Tweaked" stats? AND Also How will it be determined when and where or if a weapon breaks? AND On a final note are there actually poisoned weapons in existence and if not will we ever see them?'"
Mikos says, "If an old weapon is lost, it will be replaced with whatever profile exists for that weapon. We're confusing tweaked with new weapons here. Tweaked means the existing stats have been changed for all instances of a weapon. New weapons that are being introduced to replace renamed weapons is different. Right now there is no set policy for replacing old renamed weapons, with renamed old base weapons or with the new weapon."
Mikos says, "Augustii says, 'will defender class weapons be affected, and if so, how?'"
Mikos says, "Defender weapons are unique weapons in themselves. Currently, aside from the main gauche that does not work as it should, defender weapons have a special enchantment on them. This isn's being affected by any planned changes."
Mikos says, "Shawnessey says, '"Mikos, Will there be any new Santified weapons or changes to existing Sanctified weapons?'"
Mikos says, "Sanctified weapons again are qualities unique to a single weapon. There are no planned changes for specific qualities at this time."
Mikos says, "Latog says, 'wouldn't implementing the engagement system make non ranged/polearm weapons virtually useless?'"
Mikos says, "I don't expect that to be an issue in the foreseeable future."
Mikos says, "Inashadow says, 'I don't understand how an old claid is just a renamed falchion/broad...it hits harder and has a different AvD. And why not allow warriors to be able to tell the different stats, since they're supposed to be the weapon experts? And all this downtweaking you speak of cannot help the warrior's plight much...we don't hear so much about spell downtweaking while critters are getting uptweaked regularly...what say the gods to that? Thank you.'"
Mikos says, "An old claidh is a renamed 2handed sword, with some tuning done to it. Giving special abilities to warriors to distinguish skills needed for a specific weapon is beyond what we're addressing here. You might want to suggest that to Giacomo as a warrior's guild skill. Downtweaking isn't intended to help or hurt any specific class. The biggest gripe I've heard yet about downtweaking was about lances and was from a cleric. Spells are being looked at constantly for game balance."
Mikos says, "These changes are about weapons that every class uses."
Mikos says, "Gartt says, 'If weapon damage types are modified (as in the afore-mentioned war mattock (military pick?)), will there be a new maul weapon class? There are a number of these in the lands now, and to have them doing puncture along with the new mattocks/picks would be just changing which weapon has the problem.'"
Mikos says, "WHat kind of damage a weapon does is weapon-specific. I don't see that a new class of weapon is needed, we simply need to look at existing weapons and make sure that their current damage type makes sense and change it if it doesn't."
Mikos says, "Kryaln says, 'Will these new weapons be readyly availible or will they be the real expencive stuff only Lords and Ladys can afford? Like current basterd swords and katanas?'"
Mikos says, "Likely some will be put into shops in towns, some might be rarer. The tiger-claw might be harder to come by, but I don't expect any to be available only in back rooms."
Mikos says, "Araneus says, 'Will 'weapon clashes' return with breakage?'"
Mikos says, "I would expect so."
Mikos says, "Qwifilus says, 'What about two-handed weapons? Will there be more variety of these in the future? I would also like to see wider availability of magic-metal claids in the realm. Finally, I see claids were listed in the group of weapons to be changed..are they to be down-graded (if so, in what way?)'"
Mikos says, "There will be more two-handers, but there isn't a recognized shortage of choices in that class like there is currently for OHC and PA. For wider availabilty of magic-metal claidhs, you'll have to pester the merchants. Claidhs are listed because they are being given their own set of stats to make them easier for GMs to create/replace. There is no planned change to their stats at this point."
Mikos says, "Kwib says, 'Just what is so unique about these changes that a whole forum is dedicated to them? (and I've seen a few heads that easily qualified as a hard item) And with regards to mornings stars and such, they are unique in that they do bashing damage and puncture. However, with regards to those critters immune to punctures, they effectively also become immune to crushing from these types of weapons. I think that's something that needs to be remedied.'"
Mikos says, "A whole forum is dedicated to them because these changes will likely effect everybody. Simply posting the changes doesn't reach everyone. The issue of puncture crits and critters that are immune to them is a creature design issue as well as a weapon issue. We can't address it entirely by changing weapons."
Mikos says, "Throin says, 'Will ye be implementing a separate katana class? And will ye be fixing the farce of puncture crits preventing all damage on such creatures as golems and pookas? If yer downtweaking morning stars, ye certainly ought to fix the puncture-damage problem.'"
Mikos smiles.
Mikos says, "There will be no separate katana class. This is a European-based medieval role-playing game so there will be no distinct katana weapon created."
Mikos says, "And the puncture damage question was just addressed. I realize it is a problem and we will be looking into how to correct it in some way."
Mikos says, "Siraris says, 'you said before that you were bringing back old items, what are some of the items these would be. I was also wondering why would you bring back the older weapons, because the ones that people have now will go down in value and that is unfair to the people who had the rare items in the first place.'"
Mikos says, "By old items I meant grappling nets, whips, some of the brawling weapons. What I meant wasn't selling new ones, although that may happen, what I was talking about was making them functional in the combat system again."
Mikos says, "Kailah says, 'will they be adding more availability of higher enchanted weapons as they have added higher enchanted shields, i.e. Tower shields'"
Mikos says, "That's up to merchants, not up to designers of specific weapons. In other words, I can't really say."
Mikos says, "Rhiith says, 'with future OHC which do do puncture strikes, could some of them like the crowbill be scripted so that we may turn them around and not strike with the pointed edge, thus eliminating the puncture injuries if so desired? Also, will the weapons if they are introduced through boxes be evenly distributed among all critters or just among upper level monster boxes?'"
Mikos says, "Interesting suggestion. I don't know that a crowbill lends itself to a variable attack type, but certainly that's an aspect that could be added to a few specific weapon types. Weapons introduced through boxes will be distributed by the treasure system just as they are now, so I'll leave you to judge if that's even or not."
Mikos says, "There's no plan to hand-feed chests with weapons to create a balance or a lack thereof."
Mikos smiles.
Mikos says, "Khoralas says, 'Mikos So far, the mace is the only blunt that isn't included in the puncture category...any chances of adding more blunts that can compliment the mace in terms of avoiding puncture-related misses?'"
Mikos says, "Yes."
Mikos says, "You should see two or three more OHC's in the next batch that do only blunt. The ball & chain is like that."
Mikos asks, "Qwallana says, "Wait, first you say olld weapons will be tweeked then you say they won't be touched Which is it?"
Mikos says, "Some old base weapons are likely to be tweaked. There are two separate issues here, one is will we force replacement or old renames with new unique weapons...that isn't likely. Second, will existing renamed weapons be affected by tweaking? Yes, any renamed weapon based on a weapon that is tweaked will necessarily be effected."
Mikos says, "Magretta says, 'Will there be more weapons available that have defensive properties? And what of old ICE age names, shaalk, laen, etc. will they be finally changed to comply with copyright requirements?'"
Mikos says, "Defensive weapons will eventually be included, but because they will require changes to the combat system in order to work correctly, don't expect them soon. I'm assuming you mean weapons like main gauches, parrying daggers. If you mean weapons with the defender enchantment, that's up to the merchants. As far as old names go, the conversion vessel is out there. Some players hoard the old namedd materials because they are becoming collectors items."
Mikos says, "I don't know of any plan to forcibly convert the ones that folks have."
Mikos says, "Galadril says, 'mikos for the terminally stupid how about my rolaren waraxe..how is that effected?'"
Mikos says, "Uh...I don't believe it is."
Mikos smiles.
Mikos says, "Jafirnn says, 'Until recently, anything that said "claidhmore" in its name was a devastating weapon with amazing crits, recently I have noticed a change and claids are becoming many things..vibe crits and such...is this new policy going to change, or continue?'"
Mikos says, "I'm not addressing or in any way trying to control what special abilities merchants or artificers might choose to add to weapons."
Mikos says, "Hyoko says, 'Mikos, the weapons you have mentioned are new weapons that will be added to the old weapons currently offered. Are katanas part of the old weapons, or will they not be offered again?'"
Mikos says, "Katanas are renames of an existing base weapon. They are not being created as a new, unique weapon. Expect them to be available to whatever extent they currently are."
Mikos says, "Amery says, 'Will the new Ball and Chain weapons puncture like the current morning star type Ball and Chains?'"
Mikos says, "No, the new ball & chain is 100% blunt, or I'm going senile."
Mikos says, "Kayveen says, 'mikos The new weapons wont be released to premium only users will they?'"
Mikos says, "Only if the merchant that sells them sells only to Premies. If that happened expect it to be short-lived. There's no gain for us to alienate players by making any item exclusively available to Premium accounts. The standard approach to Premium accounts is, as far as I know, they get things sooner or faster."
Mikos says, "But not exclusively."
Mikos says, "Given the various means we have of introducing the new weapons, don't expect them to be only narrowly available."
Mikos says, "Enegue says, 'Will the bards song 'Sonic Blade' be modified to create a majority of the new weapons, of all skill types?'"
Mikos says, "I have no idea. I have no idea what may be planned for bard spells. They're totally beyond my knowledge."
Mikos says, "Cryheart says, 'Mikos about when breakage comes back, will that include bashing chests, etc.'"
Mikos says, "I have no idea how that will effect bashing chests. Far as I know that still has to be worked out."
Mikos says, "Nanna says, 'What skill will the bastardsword use if it's a single entity? Did I understand that correctly, I'm confused, will they still be switchable, if not, your making new weapons that are? Will it be a ratio, or will they all be just glorified single hander? Could you clerify? Also, what of katana's? They are either longswords or broadswords? Will they be changed improperly? Will the existing one handed halberds be forced into a new type, or made twohanders and what's the problem with lances?'"
Mikos chuckles.
Mikos says, "The bastard sword will use 2handed skill when employed 2handed, and OHE skill when employed with one hand. It will still be switchable. Katanas I'd have to look at. I've made no plans to change them so I haven't looked closely at them at all. The existing one-handed halberds will likely remain in the game as oddities since there's not an easy way to change them all to two-handers. It can be done, but it wouldn't be fun to do."
Mikos says, "The problem with lances is that their stats reflect the assumption that they will be used by mounted folk. Since we have no horses, they are waaaay over-powered. They will be changing, and those changes (Gross-tweaking) will be the sort that will affect all instances of them in the game. Assuming the weapon you have that's named a lance isn't actually a re-named halberd."
Mikos says, "Some lances in the game currently are, in fact, renamed halberds and won't be affected by the change at all."
Mikos says, "Skytoucher says, 'when you say down tweaking on already owned weapons, what does that mean? will a lance owned now: become one handed, not hit as hard, have a lower avd, or the rt penalty be changed? and if the weapon has been Enchanted and furthered bettered with lots of hours and silver spent, will it still be "Down-tweaked"?'"
Mikos says, "Handedness isn't a tweak. There's no easy way to change existing instances of such a weapon already in the game. By tweaks I mean changes possibly to speed, AvD, DF, or crit type. Aimed attack modifier is also easily tweakable."
Mikos says, "What I am calling tweaks, ie. changes to the base tables that give a weapon 90% of its combat stats, will affect all weapons in the game that are built from the base item that is tweaked."
Mikos says, "Seracen says, 'Mikos We'll we ever see any Dark Elf crafted weapons or armor,The begginer guide said that Dark Elves were master craftsmen with metals,so that should count for something'"
Mikos says, "That's up to merchants."
Mikos says, "Pherlytt says, 'mikos will there be limited re-allocation to compensate for the training needed to be effective with the new weapons?'"
Mikos says, "There is no current plans for any reallocation. The changes do not make any existing character unhuntable. For any change that significantly reduces the effectiveness of one weapon, others will be added to provide an alternative. The only exception is Lances. They are currently overpowered, and anyone using one will not be unable to hunt with the planned changes to it."
Mikos says, "Kelfini says, 'mikos will quality of the weapon, magic metals, and care of weapon be taken into account when considering breakage?'"
Mikos says, "Yes."
Mikos says, "Londaren says, 'Mikos, will we be able to tell what kind of weapon a certain weapon is (one handed, two handed, edged, blunt, polearm, etc.) just by looking at it or examining it?'"
Mikos says, "No moreso than currently."
Mikos says, "Thym says, 'I may have missed this asked before, but will defender and scripted weapons such as them break?'"
Mikos says, "You betcha."
Mikos says, "Tapow says, 'Mikos, which of the new weapons are RT reducers?'"
Mikos says, "I don't know that any of them are. I wasn't aware that a weapon type reduced RT."
Mikos says, "Rova says, 'hello, now we have talked alot of blunts and like to say thank ye for makeing more blunts but i have to disagree morning stars should stay the same bone crushing, blood curlying weapon. why change? also are ye's gunna change the mace's and hammers to more powerful weapon?'"
Mikos says, "Maces and hammers will likely not change."
Mikos says, "Expect more variety in OHC in the future, though."
Mikos says, "Shawnessey says, 'If you want us to be unique then the extreme difficulty in getting a weapon enchanted needs to be addressed or none of the new weapons will be much use in creating unique personalities for us.'"
Mikos says, "That's a whole different issue. I'll work to give you variety. What you choose to do with it after that is up to you."
Mikos says, "Golliath says, 'i dont see why with certain weapons we just dont 'learn' to use them differently, like a war hammer(which i understand only has a point at 1 end) why wouldnt i just turn it around so the point on the end wouldnt be swung at the target?'"
Mikos says, "Again, turning weapons to use a different attack type is a scriptable possibility. It's a good idea and one we're already looking into for some polearms, mostly because polearms could use a nifty edge of some sort. It's certainly possible for other weapons too, just don't expect to see it soon."
Mikos says, "Eahlstan says, 'Mikos the Imortals of Elanthia seem to enjoy up-tweaking creatures, and now they want to down-tweak weapons, how are warriors suposed to hunt? The lands are already insanely unbalanced against warriors, and now you wish to make it that much worse on them. I have not heard any talk about down tweaking spells, why down tweak weapons? Or is it the intent of the Gods to rid the lands of Warriors entirely?'"
Mikos says, "If you count making lances less powerful "much worse" for warriors, then yes I do intend to. The reason I use the term "tweak" is because, aside from lances, the changes will be small. In short, I agree there is a warrior problem, I know there are changes in the works to address it, but you're over-reacting to the changes I've outlined."
Mikos says, "Shanleigh says, 'm'Lord Mikos... I dinna know if this has been asked or nae yet... but what about Sanctified weapons... how will they be affected with these changes? They are already twice the cost of "normal" metals... will they be affected... and how? What about breakage? Does any of this affect my current weapon or just new ones?'"
Mikos says, "Sanctified weapons are merchant-specific items. I don't expect the changes I'm discussing here to affect that at all. Breakage, when it returns, will affect all weapons."
Mikos says, "Cedorian says, 'i have a ball and chain and i usally do puncture damage is there a big spike on it or is this a bug your going to fix? also would breakage apply to warriors who are trying to disarm?'"
Mikos says, "Since ball & chain was a renamed weapon, it does whatever type of damage the weapon it was created from did. The new ball & chain will not change your weapon at all. What you have isn't a bug, it's a renamed morning star or other OHC weapon."
Mikos says, "Right now I have no idea how breakage will affect disarm if at all."
Mikos says, "Stonenkin says, 'considering the number a people about and the fact that most would prefer to have a unique weapon will there at some future time be a shop in towns allowing people to have their weapon description changed to suit their preferences ? also will there be a weapons repair shop to fix breakage such as the Edwina's lockpick repair?'"
Mikos says, "An automated weapon description alterer, beyond the auto-dyer, will likely never come along. The problem is system limitations. It's simply not something we can automate, or if we do it will be with very limited choices. As far as weapon repair, I would expect to see it as a Guild skill before I'd expect to see it in a shop."
Mikos says, "Iudea says, 'I've always wondering about the weight of a weapon affecting RT. I.E. If I use a dagger with normal hunting gear I would expect my RT to go down lower then 5. If I use a broadsword with normal hunting gear I'd expect my RT to be 5. Will there be any changes like that or no?'"
Mikos says, "As far as I know there is a set minimum of 5 for RTs, excluding some spell effects. There are no changes planned that I know of."
Mikos says, "Bowster says, 'mikos will the sonic blade song be updated to include the new weapons? and will the changes be reflected in their sonic weapons?'"
Mikos says, "I have no idea. Spells are beyond me."
Mikos says, "Cutterman says, 'did you indicate that the new weapons would not be crit weighted...if this is the case...will it not devaluate the newer items against the old items which are crit weighted?'"
Mikos says, "Any weapon purchased from the shop is normally not crit weighted. Claidhs are the exception. None of the new weapons will come crit weighted standard."
Mikos says, "What merchants may choose to do with them is up to them."
Mikos says, "Justar says, 'Will there be any weapons or items implemented to compliment Voln-Fu? I would gladly give much to have an item that would raise my MB and/or increase my chance to crit with Fu... And will higher enchanted items be harder to break when the breakage system is implemented? Would hate to have a 5x or 6x weapon break...'"
Mikos says, "There are currently no weapons planned to work in conjunction with Voln-fu. Likely when we introduce new brawling weapons you'll find some that augment that. As far as breakage goes, certain materials are harder than others. That's why some magical materials cost more. But enchantment in and of itself doesn't affect chance to break."
Mikos says, "Throin says, 'Since I don't get crits from spells, and many of the monsters I fight must be beaten to death with damage, and now my damage will be lowered, will I be able to crit monsters with my weapon? Or is it time for all weapon swingers to look at a quiet retirement? If yer looking for complaints on this matter, then here is mine.'"
Mikos says, "Throin, I assume your primary weapon is a lance. If it isn't, then I don't know where this comment is coming from. Assuming you are a lance-wielder, all I can say is that you've benefited from an erroneously stat'ed weapon that has given you an unrealistic advantage to-date. If warriors are truly unplayable to the degree that a change to one weapon will render them useless, then the problem is not one weapon."
Mikos says, "Qwallana says, 'Will failed ambushes (can't seem to find an opening) be considered a 'weapon clash'? Also, will there be merchants around so we may buy spare weapons?'"
Mikos says, "No, and yes, there will be merchants around as much as there have ever been. Likely you'll see more weapons merchants once breakage comes in."
Mikos says, "Mpov says, 'What about multi-opponent speciallized weapons? I meant, shouldn't a weapon take advantage of that skill? Also, what about battering rams? There's a weapon that uses more than one skill.'"
Mikos says, "If you can name a weapon that would rely on Multi-opps skill I'm sure we can build one that will be. I haven't thought of one so far. Battering rams? If you're planning on using a battering ram in melee I'd like to be the beneficiary on your life insurance policy."
Mikos says, "Some seige weapons are being designed. As far as applicable skills, that's still up in the air."
Mikos says, "Alorner says, 'mikos Mikos, im sorry if u already answered this question, I just got back, but will crits on weapons change at all and what will happen with longswords and Katanas? anything?'"
Mikos says, "Some crits on some OHC and twohanders may change as we re-examine them to make sure they all make sense. Longswords that exist currently in the game will be unchanged unless the base weapon they were built from gets tweaked. Nothing will happen to katanas that I know of, as far as changes go. Don't expect to see them becoming any more available though."
Mikos says, "Kryaln says, 'Will broken weapons be able to be repaired? I hope so, don't want to spend time and money et'ing, weighting, and altering a weapon just to have it break and become worthles. Also, will there be a log posted somewhere for those of us who missed the begining, and parts of the middle?'"
Mikos says, "I expect that repair will come in when breakage does, but that may be optimistic on my part. Both are being discussed. I am currently unable to capture this session, but I do intend to post a summary."
Mikos says, "Wilfredin says, 'This is probably due to ignorance on my part but I am still confused about the tweaking of the weapons. Will the types of weapons chosen for tweaking only be tweaked in their newly sold form or will all the ones already in existance be forced to change as well?'"
Mikos says, "Tweaking is changes to the tables that give every weapon 90% of their combat stats. A change to any of those tables changes every instance of that weapon in the game. It will also effect every weapon that is a renamed version of a base weapon. A katana that is a renamed falchion will be effected by a tweak to the falchion tables. A claidh that is a renamed two-handed sword would be changed by a tweak to any of the two-handed sword tables."
Mikos says, "Barquentine says, 'By down-tweaking, are you referring to just the AvD and DS stats, or will the changes also affect weight and associated roundtimes, and if so, in what way?'"
Mikos says, "Weight is not a table-derived stat, it's unique to each item. That's obvious if you think about weighted weapons or lightened armors. Tweaks can be done to speed (RT), DF, AvD, crits, and Aimed attack Modifier."
Mikos says, "So although weight and total RT are related, weight of a specific weapon and it's RT is not necessarily related as totally as might appear."
Mikos says, "I think I confused me with that explanation."
Mikos says, "Jecquelynn says, 'mikos Since breakage is being implemented, will we be able to bond tougher metals, like Rolaren,to our weapons in case we are unable to fix them? '"
Mikos says, "That's likely. I've heard of services like that being discussed. At this point I wouldn't expect breakage or associated services to appear without plenty of warning, with a posted implementation date."
Mikos says, "Jealin says, 'Will we see more whips????Will we see More diffrences between weapons even those of the same group like a mace and a morning star???'"
Mikos says, "Yes, eventually. And yes, that's what the new weapons are being added for, to add variety and choices."
Mikos says, "Inashadow says, '1) Will the pole-arms (lances and whatever) being downtweaked be done so much that they're incredibly weaker, or are the comparative training costs for pole-arms (and the lack of a shield) going to leave them inflicting large amounts of damage? 2) WHY are you perpetuating one-handed polearms? 3) Currently, there is to my knowledge exactly one (1) weapon that is 1HC/2H, and I have it; it's a club/quarterstaff. Will its stats be switched to one of the new ones? (This was from Krakii)'"
Mikos says, "Lances will be downtweaked to bring them in line with other pole arms. Realize that now that will mean Hammer of Kai, Awl-pike, jeddart-axe, as well as halberd, spear, and pilum. Part of what is lacking in polearms is the special attacks some of them had. We'll be working on these in the near future. The jeddart-axe should have a hook/knockdown attack. 1-handed polearms are being perpetuated because some weapons do not fall cleanly into any other class. One-handed spears like the pilum is one."
Mikos says, "There are currently three OHC/2H switchable weapons in the game that I know of. None of the base weapons they're built from are being changed, so I wouldn't expect any of them to change."
Mikos says, "Ravinold says, 'how much tweaking is being to to the falchion?'"
Mikos says, "Likely it will hit less effectively on rigid and plate than it currently does. 2 or 3 % less? I think that's the only change to it that's certain, the rest are in relation to other weapons and could just as easily result in them being tweaked up as the falchion being tweaked down."
Mikos says, "Avondell says, 'Are there changes planned to the aimed attack modifier?'"
Mikos says, "That's specific for each weapon. If you mean to the falchion? No."
Mikos says, "By and large the AaM for each weapon is not an issue. The AvD and DF vs some armor classes is."
Mikos says, "Macross says, 'Umm, i dunno if i missed this, but will we be able to use throwing and ranged weapons soon, or will dey have to wait fer ranged combat? dat fletcher has been gone fer quiet a while. also, how will the new tiger-claw work, these are an interesting weapon, would it be worn on the wrist and held in the hand? and lastly, will breakage be common like breaking yer lockpick?'"
Mikos says, "Throwing and ranged weapons I cannot comment on. The tiger-claw is not a scripted weapon, so it currently is not built to be worn, simply held like any other weapon. Breakage, when it comes back, will be like a lockpick to some degree. Mostly it depends on what critter you fight and if your weapon is clashing against your opponent's weapon and shield or not."
Mikos says, "Uolis says, 'mikos about the blackened long-bladed khopeshs sold on the spitfire. I have been told that they have no crits by at least 2 GM's but have fought next to someone who has one that has lightning crits. The AI crystal sais thay have elemental crits but i have never seen mine flare and have had it since i bought it from the spitfire. Is this a bug or is it something that will be implemented in the next few weeks?'"
Mikos says, "That's a specific weapon question and one that I can't address in this forum."
Mikos says, "Desler says, 'Are there any plans in making 'defender' two-handed weapons? Or at least an increase in it's effectiveness?'"
Mikos says, "Defender weapons are a special weapon quality, their availability is up to merchants. As far as their effectiveness, that's not something I expect will change anytime soon."
Mikos says, "Emyrrs says, 'I understand the 'new' versus tweak situation. Specifically are there any longswords in existance that are not something based? In other words, are all current longswords either broad or fal based?'"
Mikos says, "Yes, as far as I know all existing longswords are either falchion or broadsword based>"
Mikos says, "So tweaks to falchions will likely effect some existing longswords, but not all."
Mikos winks.
Mikos says, "Bolos says, ' Mikos, Is there plans to add the new additional weapons to the Backroom at Tykels, removing the old non used naginata, Adding backrooms to the new towns, or giving the option of magiked metals in Icemule, or Rivers Rest? Also, will the wizard class be able to bolt type spells when ranged weapons are introduced? Umm, and finally, with breakage, will both heat weapon and telekinetic disarm be implemented once more?'"
Mikos says, "That's several questions, and most beyond the topic of this forum. I don't expect any of the new weapons to wind up in a back room. I do expect the naginatas to go away at some point. I don't expect back rooms in the new towns. Magic metals in the new towns is a town issue. Wizards aiming spells is a spell issue. Heat weapon and telekinetic disarm, are spell questions too. I have no idea on them."
Mikos says, "Lleto says, 'Mikos, you say, "The only exception is Lances. They are currently overpowered, and anyone using one will not be able to hunt with the planned changes to it." Are you saying that one of the most effective, and rare (true lances are rare) weapons in the game will be reduced to the effectiveness of a cudgel?'"
Mikos says, "The first part is a mis-quote. I didn't say that anyone using one will not be able to hunt with the planned changes. In fact I would be amazed if they couldn't hunt with the changes. Am I saying that lances will be reduced to the effectiveness of a cudgel...? Of course not. How about a toothpick? If we're going to exagerate let's really exagerate."
Mikos winks.
Mikos says, "Araneus says, 'What about the problems of people that pay millions of silvers to have weapons ETed, weighted, altered, etc and then they simply break during a battle? Will there be the option of repairing items and will these fees be outrageously increased based on the value of the broken weapon? Also, could we expect implementation of ranged weapons in the future? I think it would be interesting if ranged weapons could be used from hiding without giving away your location.'"
Mikos says, "Expensive weapons will break. Repairing will likely be implemented. Ranged weapons being usable from hiding? Nice idea."
Mikos says, "Palewoe says, 'Mikos So basicly what you are saying, is that there will be a new set of standardized weapons available to everyone, with no crit-weighting/criticles or natural enchantments, meaning someone who is level 100 has the same kind of weapon as someone who is level 1? And the only weapons with crits or enchantments will be special weapons which are currently in the game which are not affected by the changes or ones which are altered by a merchant after the changes?'"
Mikos says, "I don't know how to respond to this one. At first glance it sounds totally wrong, but reading further it sounds like a statement of exactly how things currently work. Palewoe, if you want to report to let me know what I'm mis-reading that'd be fine."
Mikos says, "Siclo says, 'will they make god named weapons? and if so will they be found or merchant like the juggernaut? and what is a scripted weapon? and will there be other fourms on other topics? '"
Mikos says, "God named weapons? Like Hammer of Kai? If others seem appropriate we will. Any and all of the new weapon types will be findable and merchant buyable. A scripted weapon is one that has a piece of program code attached in order to have it work correctly, like a bastard sword in order for it to be hand-switchable. Yes, I expect there will be other forums."
Mikos says, "Dragonshield says, 'WIll the current pole-arm naginata change at all?'"
Mikos says, "No, but it will likely go away."
Mikos says, "Golliath says, 'as for scripting weapons, is there any plans to 'wave' around morning stars or ball and chains to build up momentum for greater damage/crits?'"
Mikos says, "Nope, that'd be a fairly involved setup. More likely to see them ignore shields of the defenders because they can "wrap around" a shield."
Mikos says, "Matubaa says, 'Will ranged and throwing weapons be a manuver attack? How about ranger guild skill be they make them an arrows, the ranged that is. Also addressing the warrior problem, someone who is a master at blunts, and picks up a sword for the first time, in IRL, would do better then someone who had never used a weapon, and picked up a sword for the first time, so maybe if a warrior has doubled two weapons, he could reap a little benifit from both. Ans if ranged work from hidin', why not inviso?'"
Mikos says, "Ranged weapons are beyond this forum since they are not something I can address at this time. Ranger skills are also beyond my perview to speak about. As far as residual skill for untrained weapon types, that's a skill question. I'm not discussing changes to the skill system tonight. Making all weapons affected by that is not workable. Ranged weapons working inviso vs hiding, again I can't comment on ranged weapons."
Mikos says, "Sorikus says, 'What ever happened to ranged weapons? If they do make such ranged weapons what will they be and how will they work? Will they need to change the combat system in order to get 'em to work?:::Also would there be different types of arrows, such as critted arrows heads, different shafts and fletchings? why can't you comment on em:I also have another question, what about the possiblitity of crude firearms, they would be powerfull ranged weapons but would be expensive to supply, take a long time t make n load'"
Mikos smiles.
Mikos points to the response above.
Mikos says, "Timevay says, 'mikos what types of weapons and what weapons will we be allowed to throw when the skill is working'"
Mikos says, "Ditto."
Mikos says, "Nanna says, 'When lances are changed, will thier rt adder time which is currently higher than any other weapon I believe be reduced as well? I use a lance and I think is kinda sad. Where's my horse? :( By naginata's going away I assume you mean that they'll stop being sold right, and not stop working, or be taken from us?'"
Mikos says, "I don't know about the RT, I haven't looked that closely at the RT of the lance. By naginata's going away I mean they will no longer be sold."
Mikos says, "Grobinal says, 'mikos will there be different degrees of damage done to weapons and armor? Might my weapon just be chipped or cracked and still be somewhat useful? or will it be utterly destroyed. The same question applies to armor as well, If I'm wearing double leather and get hit in the head, is just that part of my armor damaged? would have still have normal protection from a shot to the abdomen?'"
Mikos says, "The old breakage system just eliminated weapons or shields when they broke. Armor was never effected. Discussion is to add grades of damage so that weakened items could be repaired before they are destroyed, but it depends on what final form of breakage is implemented. Ultimately, I expect armor will be damaged and repairable too."
Mikos says, "Fencewalker says, 'referring to Justar's question, will the price of enchanted weapons go down?'"
Mikos says, "I doubt it."
Mikos says, "Cyphier says, 'mikos How does breakage work? Is it a reverse of the critical damge system against the critter? If I roll low the chances of my weapon breaking are higher?'"
Mikos says, "How the breakage system is implemented is far from final. I can't tell you how it will finally work. Anything I said now would be speculation."
Mikos says, "Kentaur says, 'So these 'tweaks' will make all weapons of one class comparable with all others in the same class? Like, a shortsword will have strentghs where the falchion will have weaknesses? And will critters start weilding these new weapons as their standard issue?'"
Mikos says, "The tweaks mentioned are an effort to bring a few weapons into closer alignment with what similar weapons do. An attempt to correct what many players have suggested are erroneous qualities. I expect you'll see some critters getting them in the future, as well as some weapons that will be designed primarily for critters."
Mikos says, "Shalwend says, 'I have a glaes footman lance, is that a real lance or a renamed halberd? Or will I find out after this forum and my damage drops?'"
Mikos says, "I haven't checked, but what I've heard is that the footman lance is a renamed halberd."
Mikos says, "Pyranth says, 'Please define unplayable... as compared to?....I mean you can play a warrior.. forever... and just not get anywhere.'"
Mikos says, "Now we're getting back into the warrior problem issue and that's not what this forum is addressing. Weapons are used by all classes, not just warriors. What I regard as unplayable is a character that cannot advance because they can't hunt any creature that will gain them any experience."
Mikos says, "Shawnessey says, 'No disrespect intended, but these {tweaks} on top of the critter {tweaks} seems to be designed (or at least have the effect of) haveing exclusive weapon users die the " Death of a Thousand Tweaks" Why is breakage being returned now to compound the problems of that class? It seemes that while each area (spells, weapons, critters, etc.) say that they make only a minor difference, the aggregate is significant.'"
Mikos says, "The issue of how viable warriors are as a class is not what this forum is about. If you honestly think that the changes I've outlined for two weapons will contribute significantly to the warrior problem, then you have a very simplistic understanding of the problem."
Mikos says, "We shoul probably have a forum on the warrior problem, but this isn't it."
Mikos says, "Qwallana says, 'Well, here is my complaint. I would not have payed so much for my weapon if I had known it was going to break. I now wish I had used the silvers for armor to protect myself for when I am left in a swarm with my DS lowered due to the fact that my weapon broke. Or will my DS stay the same even though my weapon is broken?'"
Mikos says, "Everyone is in the same boat, Qwallana. Breakage isn't here, so plan ahead and make your decisions accordingly."
Mikos says, "Dhalgrave says, 'Do ye know if any OHE tridents might be introduced?'"
Mikos says, "I doubt it."
Mikos says, "Mpov says, 'What about the poisoning of weapons and such?'"
Mikos says, "Look for that in the Rogues Guild skills."
Mikos says, "Throin says, 'You're saying that the tweak to my morning star will have little effect on my ability to damage monsters that can't be critted with weapons? What kind of tweak % are you talking? Aside from these lances that are causing such a problem, WHY are you tweaking weapons?'"
Mikos says, "I didn't mention any change to morning stars. I did say we'll be looking at damage types of all weapons to make sure that they're appropriate. As some folks have suggested, some damage types are clearly wrong. Aside from lances, the only tweaks I've specifically mentioned are to falchions."
Mikos says, "Druneese says, 'Will your ability to "aim your shots" at all inhibit the potential for breakage? If you can consistantly strike an opponents right eye (or a like unarmoured spot), would it then be logical that clashes vs. the oponents shield/weapon/armour, would be low as compared to normal combat?'"
Mikos says, "I would expect so."
Mikos says, "Sildus says, 'Will there be a reason for people to want to use the light-damage weapons (estoc or tiger-claws)? Since our combat system relies heavily on damage factors, will people have a functional use for such a weapon (better ambush aiming, etc.)?'"
Mikos says, "The tiger-claw is has the highest Aimed attack Modifier I've seen. That should suggest some uses for it."
Mikos says, "The estoc may simply provide variety for those that don't want to be using a broadsword or longsword."
Mikos says, "Ingrid says, 'Will we be able to forge our own weapons? All different types? With magical metals?'"
Mikos says, "Yes, public forges are planned for one of the next towns to open. Weapons forgable will depend on what patterns are available. Magical metals will be forgable if your skill is high enough and if you can scrape together enough of one type of magical metal."
Mikos says, "Larger weapons require more raw material than small weapons, so you might have little trouble coming up with enough vultite for a dagger, but getting enough for a claidhmore might cost you."
Mikos says, "Actavian says, 'are yarkbalkas going to be changed or are they base weapons already?'"
Mikos says, "I don't know. I've never looked closely at a yarkbalka. I guess I better."
Mikos says, "Jecquelynn says, 'Will breakage only happen on misses or when you hit the right or left arm? and what about some ice age weapons? you said the care of the weapon also determines breaking..how would you trace dat? and how do we know what type (THC,THE,THB) they are? you can pick up any twohander, blunt or edged, and use it if yur trained in twohanded'"
Mikos says, "In the old days breakage only happened, or had a chance of happening when clashes occurred. If you landed a blow there was no chance of breakage. Tracking care of a weapon is only being discussed. It is possible that it could be tracked by data attached to each individual weapon. As far as damage type for 2-handers, you'd have to test them if the name of the weapon doesn't make it obvious."
Mikos says, "Drigore says, 'mikos Polearms are used for offensive and defensive in battle, are they going to be "tweaked" at all to raise DS while fighting with them?'"
Mikos says, "Because a weapon with a defensive value can't also hold an offensive bonus, the scripted attacks are more likely to be done for polearms than trying to attach defensive value to them. It's a system limitation."
Mikos says, "Lurch says, 'Realizing the constraints you are under for releasing information, and being someone that uses a longsword/falchion extensively, My question is simple. Would you be happy using one of the new longswords as opposed to the falchion based versions we have now?'"
Mikos says, "I'd get a new longsword and test it out. Make up my own mind."
Mikos says, "They're two different weapons."
Mikos says, "Muren says, 'Will there be new megic metals added to shops and merchants that are not breakable? And will there be any lists that we could join at merchants to bond different stronger metals into our weaponry and shields? (that'd be helpful) And by tweaking down, will you be changing the weight on any weapons at all?'"
Mikos says, "There are existing materials with higher strength than others, that's why some are so expensive. New strengthening services will likely be offered by merchants once breakage comes back in. As far as tweaking goes, I don't expect that we will change weights much if at all."
Mikos says, "Ayms says, 'Will all weapon types be assigned a specific class or will we still see for example new longswords created that are broadsword based and new longswords created that are falchion based? Looking forward to breakage being implimented it would be real nice not to have to field test every merchant weapon to see that it is what you thought it was'"
Mikos says, "All new weapons that bear a name of a unique weapon type will be made from that weapon, so no, you will not in future see merchants selling longswords based on anything other than the longsword type."
Mikos says, "Until more weapon types are introduced, you will still see renames to produce some types."
Mikos says, "Stonenkin says, 'will any of the new weapons be made of magic metals ? also are there any plans to introduce glove type weapons that can be worn and used at the same time?'"
Mikos says, "Yes, there will be new weapons of magical materials, just like there are for any of the weapons. Currently there are no plans for a weapon that would be worn, but it's been suggested in the past."
Mikos says, "Icepath says, 'it seems odd to me that some weapons like a Lance can fit in a backpack yet still the backpack closes. is it posibal that some weapons will be weight AND mass(as in its space) basied and can fill up a holder no matter what its weight'"
Mikos says, "Nope, that's a system anomaly with no easy solution."
Mikos says, "Zrenree says, 'as a late arrival, when will these tweaks be implemented, and will bardic songs be affected in any way by these new weapons/bases'"
Mikos says, "The tweaks I would not expect before the end of September. Any tweak to weapons will be announced and bannered before takes effect. Bardic songs I have no idea on, they're beyond my area of expertise."
Mikos says, "Rova says, 'Okay, now.. so far this is what i got.. you want to lower our weapons DF, and tweak the critters... now are the critters gunna be tweak down? its already hard for me to kill em, and now you want to lower my only.. i repeat only way of killing it? As you said there is a warrior problem, So i'll repeat my question are you gunna tweak down the critters? '"
Mikos smiles.
Mikos says, "No, I'm not going to tweak any monsters. If you're talking about a falchion or a lance, yes I am talking about down-tweaking it. If you're talking about any other weapon type, no I am not talking about down-tweaking it."
Mikos says, "I repeat, no I am not tweaking down any critters."
Mikos says, "Giantsheild says, 'ask Weapons that have merchant imbedded elemental crits now seem to be broken in relation to the pre ice damage that I have seen. The damage from a flare is as much as 60% less than it used to be. Will elemental crits ever be the same again and is that also a table that is being modified? Associated with that, will the weapons with poison crits ever be fixed? Also.. when critting with a flare weapon the critter tends not to die on a flare.. this is known as a bug?'"
Mikos says, "I don't know of any planned changes to flares."
Mikos says, "The world changed when the ICE age ended. Don't expect things to revert to what they were before."
Mikos says, "I have no information about fixes to poison crits, fixing or otherwise."
Mikos says, "And no, I haven't seen any studies done on the frequency of deaths due to flares, but I'm not aware of any bug associated with it's lack of lethality."
Mikos says, "Husker says, 'Mikos, can you give a summary of the main points you hit on tonight? Something very brief...?'"
Mikos says, "Yes, since I've run much longer than I'd intended, I'd like to try to summarize and then open the floor to comments for about 20 minutes or so."
Mikos says, "There are new weapons that will be released in the next several weeks. They are: longsword, tiger-claw (OHE), military pick (2H), awl-pike(PA), claidhmore (No change, just convenience for GMs), backsword, crowbill (Beaked OHC), flamberge (2h), jeddart-axe (PA), Hammer of Kai (PA), ball & chain (OHC), and pilum (1H/PA)."
Mikos says, "One handed halberds will be going away, that is they will no longer be sold at some point in the near future."
Mikos says, "Lances will be significantly down-tweaked. They are an erroneously powerful weapon that was created to reflect a mounted attack which does not exist in a world without horses."
Mikos says, "Falchions will likely be down-tweaked by 2-3%, other weapons that they compare to will likely shift also in an attempt to eliminate some unreasonable differences."
Mikos says, "The intent is to eliminate any "one best weapon" where none should exist."
Mikos says, "Any changes will be bannered and posted prior to implementation."
Mikos says, "Expect breakage to return, but there is no timetable for it yet."
Mikos says, "That's about it for summary."
Mikos says, "I'll try opening the floor now for comments, in the interests of time. Please try to keep your comments to the topic and short."
Mikos opens the floor back up for general discussion.
Qwifilus says, "Are there any plans to increase the damage factor of two-handed weapons? There appears to be a ceiling on how much damage a weapon of any class can do -- I've seen falchions do near 200 points of damage yet I've never had my greatsword go significantly over that amount (this is, of course, providing a high enough total roll in each circumstance of the weapon in question)"
Mikos says, "Don't expect to see damage rising above the ceilings you currently see."
Plur says, " Mikos I arrived a bit late, but was wonderin', if and when our weapons and shields break, will der be a way to repair dem, like wit' lockpicks? Why spend millions crittin', enchantin', and alterin' weapons, when dey'll jus' break eventually, and poof, all yer work is gone. Why not jus' buy a normal blade, and get it e-bladed? "
Mikos says, "Repair is being discussed along with breakage. It is being suggested as a Warrior's Guild skill."
Stumpet asks, "why can a ohe weapon crush a critt head or break it arm so easy yet with a ohc you have a much harder time?"
Mikos says, "I don't know that that's an accurate statement, Stumpet. Crits depend on the severity of the blow, not directly on the weapon type."
Brombal asks, "Is the rumor true? Tha Rolaren won break? If na is there a type of material that won break?"
Mikos says, "I don't know of a material that won't break, some just have a very very very small chance of breaking."
Tryner asks, "when is it coming back?"
Mikos says, "Later this year, unless it gets slowed down."
Mikos says, "Depends on how involved we make it."
Qwallana asks, "What professions will be allowed to forge weapons? And what training will help the forging process?"
Mikos says, "Anyone will be able to forge weapons. Training will be learning by doing."
Shagron asks, "And what sort of workshop will be necessary for the forging?"
Mikos says, "A weaponcrafting workshop, Shagron. Any town wanting help producing weapons will have one or several."
Warmangler asks, "will warriors have bonuses in forging?"
Mikos says, "Warriors will be naturally the most proficient at forging, since it requires the same stats as warrioring."
Zenmagic asks, "and will there be any materil that is consider un breakable/.?"
Mikos says, "No, Zenmagic, there won't be."
Qwallana asks, "Any plans on the placement of the materials needed for forging the weapons? Will it be like the chunks of iron?"
Mikos says, "Qwallana, iron slabs are currently creatable in the kob mines. There will likely be other spots to make it in the future."
Zenmagic asks, " GM Mikos will there be staff for wizards or sorc to use? or any plans for that in the future?"
Mikos says, "It's being discussed, Zenmagic."
Brombal asks, "GM Mikos, is there any plan to change the current enguagement system any?"
Mikos says, "No, Brombal, there isn't."
Mikos says, "Thanks for coming. Thanks for you questions. I hope we were able to let you in on what's coming so you won't feel blind-sided by any of it."
Mikos waves.
Mikos suddenly fades out of sight.
